Is Apple preparing to put the iPod out of its misery?

Well, Apples quarterly result was released earlier this week, revealing that only about 6 million iPods were sold, this is basically half what was sold last year during the same period.

It seems like they are intentionally suffocating the device, I mean Apple have not exactly made any earthshattering changes to the product line, save for the modification of the fourth-generation iPod touch.

The product’s underperformance could be partly brought about by the consumers preference to store and listen to music through their smartphones. So does this mean that Apple will pull the iPod any time soon?

Not so fast. It seems that speculations indicate that at least one more iPod is in the works, given that Apple is looking to hire a manager to head the new product in the line.
