eBay’s database Hacked.
eBay is asking customers to change their passwords after a database that had users personal information was cracked. This was according to a statement released on Wednesday.
The information in the database, mostly encrypted passwords, was compromised earlier in the year. Some of the other information accessed included names, birthdates, phone numbers, email addresses and home addresses. Luckily, reports indicate that there was no financial information include.
The breach was only recently discovered in spite of it happening months ago, and it is unclear as to the extent of the damage.
The notice first appeared on the company’s website for PayPal, owned by eBay and which handles its online payments. Users who use the same Password for other sites should ensure that they make the appropriate changes.
This brings to focus the fact that the idea of online security is yet to come of age, and all measures available to be secure should be taken.
