Google unleashes its wrath on defiant Rap Genius.
Google recently removed Rap Genius, a music lyrics website from its search results. This was after discovering that it was using a search engine optimization gimmick to improve is ranking.
The punishment came after Rap Genius admitted to violating Google Inc’s SEO policy. The founders of Rap Genius explain in a blog post, how they had strategized a plan to enhance SEO by advising bloggers to insert a back link to the lyrics of Justin Bieber’s new album on their website. For this, they would reward the bloggers by tweeting a link to the bloggers post.
This is where they messed up. You see, Google Inc (NASDAQ:GOOG)’s policy stipulates that, creating links that weren’t editorially placed or vouched for by the site’s owner on a page, otherwise known as unnatural links, can be considered a violation.
The site is now vowing to do everything to learn and comply with Google Inc (NASDAQ:GOOG), and never want to land on the wrong side of the policy again.
