Huawei to modify Ascend P7 by adding a Sapphire screen to make it compete with iPhone 6

Rumors over the last year have indicated that Apple plans to make the display of the iPhone 6 using the Sapphire crystals and now it looks like Huawei wants a piece of that pie. Despite releasing their flagship Ascend P7 device earlier on in 2014, Huawei’s CEO claims that they are about to modify the flagship so that it can compete with the next iPhone.

According to an interview with Engadget, the China-based smartphone maker is set to launch the first Sapphire devices in September, the second batch should follow in November.

Sapphire is the second hardest material after diamond, and Apple have used this material before on the iPhone 5S fingerprint sensor and also over the camera’s lens to prevent both of this sensitive places from scratching or breaking. The strength of the material lies in its ability to resist breakage and scratching. Whatever the pressure and severe circumstance, Sapphire can take it.

Ascend P7 is Huwaei’s flagship device and the company is making a killing in China. The smartphone features Android 4.4 (KitKat). It comes with a quad-core processor and 1080p 5-inch display. The Sapphire screen addition is not expected to affect anything else on the device.
