Samsung Galaxy Alpha specs officially revealed, to cost more than Galaxy S5 and iPhone 5S
Samsung officially announced that the Galaxy Alpha will be launched in September. The tech giant was not hesitant on stating the specs of what is to be their first premium smartphone by design thanks to it’s metallic frame – or in simple terms, their first metallic smartphone. The CEO and Head of IT and Mobile Communication at Samsung Electronics, JK Shin, said that the Galaxy Alpha was built and designed based on the specific desires of the consumer market. He adds;
With an entirely new appearance, the Galaxy Alpha focuses on both beauty and functionality combining a stunning metal frame and slim, light weight design with the same powerful hardware and features users expect from a flagship Galaxy mobile device.
Rumors had been flying left, right and center before this official announcement, and photos of the Galaxy Alpha were leaked in a few posts that we featured. Samsung’s first metallic phone is not a full fledged metallic phone because the metallic part is on the frame.The company chose to keep the faux-leather back that was also seen on the Galaxy S5 and first featured on the Note 3.
The phone features a 12 Megapixel rear Camera that’s backed up by a 2.1 MP front Camera. It comes with a 4.7″ HD Super AMOLED display with a resolution of 1280×720 pixels. A Quad Core 2.5 GHz processor and 2GB of RAM are expected to power the phone’s performance. Unlike previous Samsung models, the Galaxy Alpha will not have a Micro-SD slot, it will, however, come with 32GB internal storage.
Samsung Galaxy Alpha’s dimensions are 132.4 x 65.5 x 6.7 mm which translates into a very slim phone, only 6.7 mm thick which will see it weigh 115g. The smartphone will also have an 1860mAh battery as well as launching with Android 4.4.4 KitKat.
A UK mobile phone vendor (mobiles.co.uk) has said that they will sell the phone at $66 per month complete with unlimited minutes, unlimited texts and 1GB of data, which makes the phone more expensive than Apple’s iPhone 5S and the current Samsung flagship Galaxy S5. Also, despite Samsung not officially confirming the shipping date of the Galaxy Alpha, the same smartphone vendor has said they will start shipping the phone on 12th September.
Samsung Galaxy Alpha will be available in Black, white, blue and gold color options. If you missed the Alpha Commercial by Samsung, you can watch the video below and take a peak at what is to be Samsung’s competition for the iPhone 6 to be released in the next few weeks;
