‘USB CONDOMS’ PROTECT YOUR DONGLE AGAINST MALWARE.
It’s highly likely that one time or another you plugged in your phone or tablet to a nearby USB port, just to prevent it from dying. You did this at the risk of leaking your data or picking up malware.
In relation to this one US company has come up with a nifty way to connect your device to public USB ports without the risk of having your data sucked up or get infected with a virus. Introducing the so-called USB condoms.
The device is an int3.cc’s “condom” which actually plugs into your device’s USB port and connector cable.
To visualize a USB plug, it contains four pins, which serves as data and power transfers and an electric ground. The condom works by blocking the data pins, leaving the rest free. This means you can plug your phone into any External USB without the risks that come along with it.
Essentially, it’s a very useful device but the concept already exists in the form of a dedicated USB charging cable that does the exact same thing. The dedicated cable is available online, and so will be the USB condom, but at a relatively higher price.
The condom means you do not need to pack multiple cables, or destroying your device with wrong cables. To add to this, it’s really small and fits right into your pocket.
